Hey everyone…we just got back from our trip to Nashville and we’ve got TONS of pictures posted in the Photos section. Some of them are quite weird, so go check it out now! Just click here or click on “photos” in the menu above. It may take a little while to load because there are so many pictures, but we wanted to make sure you could see them all. Just a note: we didn’t really subject Gabe to crude torture.

Batman!
Tuesday, June 21st, 2005I went and saw Batman Begins the other night, and it was by far the best Batman movie ever. As some have said, it was Batman done right. It wasn’t completely free of cheesiness, but it was the most believable and convincing superhero story in quite a while.
Here’s how you can become the next batman:

Steve Jobs Graduations & Mindy Smith
Monday, June 20th, 2005This is an interesting Commencement Address by Steve Jobs. Maybe we should make it into a song. Oh wait…
In other news, I met Mindy Smith today. Well, rung up her purchase anyway. She’s a musician here in Nashville. Check her out.

…What’s with the Scotch Tape???
Sunday, June 19th, 2005Last night we played at the Attic Club in Dayton, OH, and there really weren’t very many people there at all. But that’s all good…because the people that were there were the COOLEST EVER, and we got to meet some of them and explain things like our brown zip-up necktie, our vintage “old man” style suitcase, and our leprechaun paraphernalia. We also got to discuss the latest topics and issues, like who were those girls that were running around putting scotch tape on everyone’s shoulders. And we got to play with some cool bands, including In The Red, who are another 3 peice band that had an incredible sound (thanks for the CD guys!). Anyway, we had a blast and we hope everyone else did to. Thanks for coming!

A show worth $100!
Friday, June 10th, 2005I went out to see Gentry Morris perform at a $5 show. But while I was there, my car got towed, and the show turned into a $100 show. A $100 that I don’t have, seeing as my company hasn’t managed to pay me after 4 weeks. But that’s all irrelevant.
Gentry is great. He and I went to school together back in the day, and he moved to Nashville to become a rock star. Check out his website.

Drinking only water
Thursday, June 9th, 2005About three weeks ago, Josiah, Gabe, and I decided to stop drinking soda, milk, juice, etc, and start drinking only water. My thoughts were that I was tired of waking up exhausted and having to drink caffeine to get through the day, only to feel even worse afterwards. I figured that if I was waking up exhausted, I needed to focus on getting enough sleep the night before, and I suspected that if I drank enough water, I wouldn’t need caffeine, and might feel even better. So Gabe pressured us to make a pact to drink only water.
As a result, I inadvertently lost 15 pounds in three weeks.
And all without counting calories, dieting, or ceasing from eating junk food at the local convenience store. And losing weight really wasn’t on my immediate “to-do list” either.
There are several things that have struck me since deciding to do this. One is that I had the habit of getting hungry, and then dealing with my hunger by drinking soda. Even eating a candy bar probably has less calories and more nutrition than soda. And when you drink something, it may make you full for a while, but you’ll soon be just as hungry. Replacing meals with sugar-water is a bad idea.
This is not a calorie issue either. I would often drink diet soda; it too is filling, but leaves you feeling even more hungry than regular soda. So it tends to cause over-eating.
The other thing that struck me is how water tends to fix your ailments. I haven’t really done much better on getting sleep; I’ve made a lot of trips lately where I’m getting in at 3:30am and getting up at 7:00am. But when I drink a lot of water, it makes me feel more alert than caffeinated soda does. And in general, it just seems like I’ve felt better.
This wasn’t the easiest decision for me to make. Just like Gabe, I tend to drink ALL the time. I have to drink or chew on something. And my ideal situation would be to not ever have to eat and just be able to drink smoothies all day.
But there is something philosophical to be said about eating when you’re hungry, drinking when you’re thirsty, and not screwing that equation up.
Water is THE drink.

Another Night…
Wednesday, June 1st, 2005On Monday I hit the open mic at Bluebird Cafe, which is famous in Nashville, and played Abbey Road and Mr Rogers. Tonight I played at the Douglas Corner Cafe, and performed Solid and Mr Rogers. Solid was well-received, and Mr Rogers received a collective “errr…ahem….”.
