Weekend of doing nothing

Friday, April 29th, 2005

This weekend we’re doing nothing. Well, sorta. We don’t have any concerts. But I am running up to Charleston to hold the auditions for the Capitol Roasters Local Talent Showcase next weekend. This will be the first time we’ve ever had one there, and I’m excited about it.

If anyone is interested in playing there, contact me by email.

Meghan’s BDay Party

Monday, April 25th, 2005

On Sunday afternoon, we performed at Meghan’s birthday party…

AT THE HURRICANE PARK!

Ok, so normally, playing outside would be great, fantastic even.

BUT IT WAS SNOWING!

That’s right, we played outside in the freezing cold. After a while, our desperation got so intense, we started doing techno remixes of old country songs.

And we liked it!

So now we’re going to forget this regular music and go off to Nashville to become the first techno-country band.

Errr…

BACK TO THE FUTURE SHOW

Saturday, April 23rd, 2005

No, we didn’t play the Back To The Future theme song. Instead, we rehashed our artistic history by playing our songs in the chronological order of when they were written, bringing back a bunch of songs we hadn’t sung in years.

This show was at the Huntington Borders, and it was a lot of fun for us. The Borders people told us there were 102 people standing around.

Also, I got a special present which made this show awesome. It was a “Jolly Lemon” flag; a lemon and crossbones made by Hannah Bird and Bailey.

Don’t ask.

But it was awesome.

Went to the HYAMP show

Tuesday, April 19th, 2005

So after all this Brickhouse madness, of course I had to go to someone else’s show at HYAMP. Neutral Agreement, The Apprentice, Terminal, and Juliana Theory were playing. The Jiants were also there, as well as The Present Crisis and a bunch of other people…and Julianna Theory was awesome.

Saturday Brickhouse SHOW OF AWESOMENESS

Monday, April 18th, 2005

So Saturday was basically awesome. The bands were
-One Last Call
-Fletcher’s Grove
-Vintage Tone
-The Jiants
…and of course, us.

We had an awesome snowcone machine, a movie called “Santa Claus Conquers The Martians”, new merchandise, cheap concessions, a new sing-a-long song, and a “concert library”, where you could check out books like “It’s great to have a wolf around the house”, or “The Worst-Case Scenario Action Hero’s Guide”.

Around 70 people showed up (which is more than we’ve ever seen at any Brickhouse show we’ve been to) and the audience was great.

PS. Rayvenn, Hannah, and Bailey helped us out, and for that receive the title Fantastic People of Fantasticability!

Visit to Pittsburgh

Sunday, April 17th, 2005

The weekend was great. We started out Friday by driving up to Pittsburgh to play a “test the waters” concert in a local Borders. We had never been to Pburgh before, so it was an adventure for us. It’s so funny, because you’re driving through all this countryside that is basically just like WV out-in-the-middle-of-nowhere-land, and then you pass through a tunnel and burst out onto this huge city scene.

Well, anyway, we got stuck in long lines of traffic, because there was apparently a Pirates game that night. (I’m just guessing…the interstate said “Pirate Parking” all along it). Then, of course we took the wrong turn, and took a fun little mini-tour of downtown Pittsburgh. Which was impressive.

But eventually we ended up at the right place, set up our stuff (right in front of a food table, incidentally), and played our concert.

Then, right in the middle of our show, an 83-year-old lady got up, stood in front of us, and blew us 10 kisses. I don’t think we’ve ever gotten such a compliment before.

That made the trip worthwhile.

Afterwards, we packed up and headed out, getting on the road about 10pm. We drove until 1am, then stopped at a rest stop and slept for 2 hours. I woke up at 3:10, and we drove on, getting home about 4:30am.

Leaving us nice and exhausted for Saturday… :)

Hannah Bird, who is another fantabulous individual helping us out, made up her own awesome flyer. Check it out:

VH1 – GR8

Tuesday, April 5th, 2005

Friday night with Junior at Common Grounds was great – he turned out to be a highly creative songwriter, one of the most interesting I’ve seen. Siah, though, was stuck in Nashville and did’t make it until our show was over. Which meant that Gabe and I had to play by ourselves.

So that was an interesting twist on things.

We spent the night in Georgetown (right above Lexington), and then headed up to Dayton through blinding rain and wind. We thought we were done for, but neither snow, nor rain, nor dark of night will keep us from our appointed tourdates. Almost makes you feel patriotic. Errr…anyway.

So we played at the VH1 Save The Music concert (at the University of Dayton), which was awesome. The fraternity girls (yes, you read right…we were confused too) who hosted it were in Sigma Alpha Iota. Okay, we admit it, they were awesome, even if they were MEAN to us.

So then we headed home, stopping off at Taco Bell to fill Gabe’s ravenous hunger before plunging onward into the night towards WV. Another mission accomplished.
